Sausage Party Finger Foods
This appetizer is also great for a kid's party, and can be made in advance and stored until needed.
The calories and fat are reduced immensely when turkey is substituted for the traditional meat blended sausages that use pork, beef, and turkey combined. Calories for five sausage links drop from 160 to 80 and the fat drops from 14% to 4%. The turkey version also packs iron and protein.

Turkey Sausage Buddies
Ingredients:
-
Turkey sausages or mini smokies
-
-
Finely shredded Parmesan cheese
-
Dipping sauce (mustard, ketchup, ranch dressing)
Instructions:
-
Open sausages and drain off liquid.
-
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
-
Open bread sticks and separate where indicated, creating a dozen separate bread strips - or, if you have a pizza recipe, I make pizza dough in advance and use that.
-
Cut each bread strip into thirds, so you have 36 pieces.
-
Wrap one bread strip around each turkey sausage, and press edges to seal firmly.
-
Place about 1/8 cup Parmesan cheese on flat surface (wax paper is fine, to avoid a mess on your counter).
-
Roll each sausage buddy in the Parmesan cheese to lightly coat.
-
Place on ungreased cookie sheet, seam side down.
-
Bake for 12 minutes (or until golden brown).
-
Serve with dipping sauce.
Party Tip - To prepare these ahead of time, place in plastic containers separated by wax paper, and refrigerate. Bake only in small batches as needed. Or, bake ahead of time, and reheat as needed in microwave (30 seconds) or in warm oven (3-5 minutes).
